An employee of Union Bank has been in the news for all the wrong reasons as he swindled money from an account holder. An assistant manager of this reputed bank has duped a lady of Rs. 40 lakhs from her fixed deposits account so that he could fund his online Teen Patti gambling game.
This is another case where online gambling has resulted in a criminal act and this is exactly the reason why the Central Government is taking steps to slowly curb online gambling and betting advertisements in all its forms.
The case happened in the Nehru Colony area and the police were quick to track the employee down. His name has been identified as Nishant Sadana and he is an assistant manager of Union Bank, the police said.
On 25th April 2023, the Manager of Union Bank, Nagar Nigam Branch in Dehradun filed a complaint to the police about the misdoings of Sadana.
“The UB branch manager claimed that Sadana fraudulently transferred the amount of Rs. 40 lakhs to the accounts of his wife and other family members. He committed this fraud during his tenure from 2015 to 2021,” said Sarita Dobhal, who is an SP from Dehradun.
“Police during the initial probe found enough evidence against him and then finally nabbed him from Dehradun on Monday evening. He was presently posted in Haldwani and was under suspension,” the SP added.
The police further said that Nishant had committed this crime because he was severely addicted to Teen Patti, which is an online gambling game. Teen Patti is extremely popular in India and has a wide audience.
“The accused had already finished all his savings. However, he still didn’t stop playing the game,” Sarita Dobhal added.
Popular actresses such as Mahima Chowdhury and Prosenjit Chatterjee have previously been the brand ambassadors of this game in India.
Teen Patti is one of the most popular card games in India
Teen Patti is a very widely played card game and is extremely popular in South Asian countries. People are extremely addicted to this game and the game has its origins in the English game of three-card brag.
It is also referred to as flash or flush in some areas of the world. A total of 3-6 players play this game and they use a 52-card pack and this doesn’t have the Joker card. Players play this game in a counter clock-wise manner.
Teen Patti is an integral part of the Gujarati culture and also has ties with the Hindu festival, Janmashtami!
